The holiday season is marked by hospitality.

For those new to the neighborhood, or neighbors without friends or family nearby, being included during the holidays brings a meaningful amount of hope. Hosting neighbors who live alone or those without a bustling social calendar, is a tangible way to offer belonging in this season. Being invited to begin new traditions can cultivate an important sense of connection and meaning in your neighborhood.

From Halloween through Christmas, the holiday season provides unique opportunities to show hospitality to our neighbors and neighborhoods.

You are invited to participate in a conversation with multiple perspectives and a variety of practical suggestions on how to show hospitality during the holidays.

SPEAKERS

Greg & GiGi Hahl

Hospitality was central to GiGi's upbringing. From her early days, she remembers her mom hosting large groups, taking in teens recently released from detention, and always making sure there was an extra plate, 'just in case.' Greg, on the other hand, grew up in a home with strictly planned social events with unwritten rules of reciprocation. When they got married eight years ago, they had a decision to make: what kind of family did they want to become?

Since then, Greg & GiGi have implemented an open door policy and have worked hard to make their home a place where all feel welcome. Rumor has it they throw a mean holiday party, and they regularly host dinners and events at their home. GiGi is a life coach and curriculum writer, while Greg is in tech sales. They live in Central Park with their five children - two from GiGi's first marriage, two kids together, and one teen they are fostering to adopt. They are the hosts of Mixed & Blended, a podcast on the unique challenges of having an interracial and blended family.

Pat & Ashley Riley

Pat and Ashley reside in Denver’s Park Hill neighborhood and have been Denver residents for 14 years. Throughout this time, they have discovered that spending time with neighbors is one of the most life-giving aspects of their lives. They host neighborhood parties and events throughout the year, focusing on specific themes based on the season. More importantly, they believe that simply being ‘present’ in the neighborhood is crucial to living an intentional life with others.

Before moving to Denver, they met at church and lived on Capitol Hill and Brookland in Washington, D.C. Ashley worked for the White House, and Pat worked for the American Red Cross Headquarters. Ashley is now a mental health therapist, specializing in anxiety, offering her expertise to those in need. Meanwhile, Pat serves as the CEO of Morrow, a company dedicated to assisting tech investors in their collaborations with startups. They have two daughters, aged 9 and 7.
